Five-Fingered Hand

This sculpture is meant to be a display of human evolution. Since thumbs set humans apart from so many other animals, a logical evolution that improves humans is to have four thumbs. Here the "hands" are preserved in formaldehyde. I made it by casting both my hands, cutting them in half, and combining them. I then made a silicone cast of it with a plaster shell and made two plastic casts. Finally, I placed them both in a large jar and filled it with food-dyed water.
